Organ donation law in England has changed

What has changed?

Organ donation in England has moved to an 'opt out' system. You may also hear it referred to as 'Max and Keira's Law'.

This means that all adults in England will be considered to have agreed to be an organ donor when they die unless they have recorded a decision not to donate or are in one of the excluded groups.

Your family will still be approached and your faith, beliefs and culture will continue to be respected.

You still have a choice whether or not you wish to become a donor. Get the facts about organ donation to help you decide.

Overseas Nursery Authority - rename from Overseas Nursery Allowance

Overseas Nursery Allowance renamed to Overseas Nursery Authority

Parents of 3- and 4-year olds in overseas locations where MOD schools and settings are not available can apply for reimbursement of nursery fees by means of Overseas Nursery Allowance (ONA)

Formerly referred to as ISODET Nursery Allowance, Overseas Nursery Allowance has been mislabelled. It has never been an allowance, but rather a reimbursement of fees paid.

Following consultation with stakeholders across all three Services and Families Federations it was decided that Overseas Nursery Allowance, moving forward, will be known as Overseas Nursery Authority to avoid confusion.

The application process will not change. Parents will continue to apply via Army Res and if approved, are issued with an Authority to claim.

Overseas Nursery Authority DIN (2020DIN01-046) refers and information can also be found at DCYP GOV.UK page: www.gov.uk/guidance/childcare-for-service-children

MOD Education Support Fund (ESF) – Relaunch

The ESF, launched in 2011 and subsequently extended by the Secretary of State for Defence (2018-2020), provided funding to assist publicly funded schools, Academies and Free Schools throughout the UK to mitigate the effects of exceptional mobility and/or deployment of their Service communities; Regular Armed Forces, including Reserves on Full Time commitment (FTRS FC).

Funding from the 2020 ESF will benefit approx. 25,000 Service children across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In light of ongoing rebasing activity, with further unit and personnel moves and associated disruption expected, the Directorate Children and Young People has secured £3 million from the Army TLB to fund an extension of the ESF for the 2020/2021 financial year. Minister for Defence Veterans, Reserves and Personnel clearance and support of the extension was received on 31 March 2020.

The 2021 ESF bidding round opens on Monday 1 June 2020 and closes at 1200hrs on Wednesday 7 October 2020. The application pack has been revised, and full details will be published on gov.uk shortly, https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mod-support-fund-for-schools-with-service-children-grant-application-pack.

As in previous years, DCYP will manage and administer the ESF and all applications will be reviewed/scored by regional panels. Where there is evidence of an immediate need, in-year bids from schools/LAs are welcomed.
