As you may have seen in the news over the weekend, the Defence Secretary Rt Hon John Healey MP announced an additional £1.5 billion of funding, over the next five years, to improve military accommodation across the UK.
Following the landmark deal which brought 36,347 military homes back into public ownership, we have already begun the process of transformative change. This includes the delivery of the seven commitments set out in the Consumer Charter that we shared with you last month. These commitments reflect our plans to transform living conditions for you across the UK through improved service provision, communication and upgrades to homes.
DIO has advocated for sustained investment into the estate for many years and we believe this will be a turning point in allowing us to deliver significant change to your future lived experience.
Air Commodore Leah Griffin, DIO Head of Accommodation:
“This multi-year settlement is transformative and will enable long-term investment decisions to be made that directly benefit Service Personnel for years to come, whilst accelerating the delivery of significant improvements to the lived experience for Service families.”
We know that you may have questions about the future of the SFA estate or ideas that you would like to put forward. One way you can do this is to make your views known in the Future Defence Housing questionnaire which is open from Monday 2 June – Sunday 22 June.
Help shape the Future of Defence Housing
The Armed Forces Families Federations invite all Service Personnel and families to take part in the Future Defence Housing questionnaire.
The questionnaire being carried out by the Army, Naval and RAF Families Federations, is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve the standard of homes for thousands of families and influence real change for generations of Service Personnel to come.
Responses to the questionnaire will directly inform future recommendations to shape the forthcoming Defence Housing Strategy that is being published later this year. The Families Federations want to hear the views of all Personnel, not just those currently living in SFA.
The questionnaire will be available from today, Monday 2 June – Sunday 22 June at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/FutureDefenceHousingQuestionnaire.
Armed Forces Continuous Attitudes Survey (AFCAS) results
On Thursday 22 May, the results of the 2025 UK Regular Armed Forces Continuous Attitude Survey (AFCAS) were published onto GOV.UK. The annual survey is conducted by the MOD to understand your opinions and experiences as Service Personnel.
Here’s what you said about accommodation
Satisfaction with responses to requests for maintenance and repair work of SFA has increased for the second year in a row, now at 34%. We are pleased to see it is now at its highest level since 2022.
The results show that we are making improvements in some areas, and this is just the start of our ambition. In April, we shared our new Consumer Charter, which sets out a list of commitments we will be making to improve our accommodation service offer for you.
DIO will continue to drive improvements, by regularly monitoring the performance of our suppliers Pinnacle, VIVO and Amey and work collaboratively to improve your satisfaction levels with SFA.
