Career Pursuit CIC (Community Interest Company) Launches Your Future Magazine: Career Support for Young People in Military Families
Career Pursuit CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to empowering Armed Forces families to build a fulfilling career around military life, announced the launch of Your Future on 24th June 2024. This new publication is a groundbreaking online magazine specifically designed to support 16–24-year-olds in military families as they embark on their first job or business venture.
Understanding the Unique Challenges
Military life is an extraordinary experience, but the constant relocations, deployments, and sense of adventure can make navigating career options a challenge. Your Future recognises these unique circumstances and offers the tools and resources young people need to thrive.
Helen Massy, founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of Career Pursuit and Your Future, stated, “We at Career Pursuit CIC understand the immense challenges young people in military families face as they begin their careers or businesses. That’s why we’re thrilled to launch Your Future – a magazine dedicated to empowering this underserved community. By highlighting free resources and showcasing inspiring stories, we aim to equip them with the tools and confidence to chart a bright future.”
Statistics Highlight the Need
Recent reports from the Service Children’s Progression Alliance state:
Frequent moves throughout an Armed Forces young person’s journey in education may result in disrupted learning, a higher likelihood of unidentified or unmet needs, and struggles regarding their ability to build and sustain long-standing relationships.
Nearly half (42%) of parents report that mobility has had an adverse effect on their child’s education, with the other half (47%) reporting that there were mixed effects (National Audit Office, 2013).
In a 2016 report by McCullouch and Hall, it was estimated that Service children were progressing to higher education at a significantly lower rate than non-Service children. The participation rate for Service children was estimated to be 24% for those aged 18–30 as opposed to 43% for those from non-Service backgrounds.
Despite these challenges, young people in military families are known for their resilience and adaptability. Your Future aims to empower them with the knowledge and resources to pursue their dreams, whether that’s landing their ideal job or launching their own business.
